Event Report: Biorizon Forging Ahead with Bio-Aromatics Upscaling
With over 150 visitors, the annual event of Shared Research Center Biorizon at the end of November was well-visited. The bio-aromatics event highlighted the upscaling efforts currently underway in the three research directions or ‘horizons’: the production of bio-aromatics from sugars, lignin and biomass residual flows (via pyrolysis and gasification).

Call for Participation: LignoValue Pilot
Biorizon co-initiator VITO, VMH and Worley Belgium have joined forces for the design and construction of a continuous pilot plant for the depolymerization of lignin into innovative biobased aromatics in Flanders. Currently they are looking for companies/venture capitalists that want to participate and/or invest.

Last Call > 6th Biorizon Annual Event on Bio-Aromatics
On November 27 and 28, Biorizon will host its 6th Annual Event in Antwerp. At this point, more than 140 participants have already registered, among whom representatives of P&G, Covestro, Clariant, SABIC, Huntsman, Solvay, Bloom Biorenewables, COSUN and AVA Biochem AG. Will you join too?

New Project: ‘Doing More With Lignin’
A Dutch consortium led by Vertoro has been granted €1.2 million to investigate the potential of crude lignin oil as a platform for sustainable chemicals and materials. Biorizon co-initiator VITO is one of the consortium partners.

New Project: Bio-Aromatics4Coatings
Biorizon co-initiator TNO develops technology to convert furans into functional bio-aromatics. Recently the Bio-Aromatics4Coatings project started with a focus on coating application. Project coordinator TNO is collaborating with several key companies in the coatings supply chain to evaluate bio-MPA.

Call for Participation: Biobased Phthalic Anhydride
Biorizon co-initiator TNO is looking for partners that are interested in the development of biobased phthalic anhydride (PA): a key feedstock for plasticizers, as well as unsaturated polyester and alkyd resins.
