Vacancy: Director Shared Research Center Biorizon

For its Shared Research Center, based in Bergen op Zoom, Biorizon is looking for a Director to coordinate the realization of the Biorizon ambitions in the field of biobased aromatics.

About Biorizon

Biorizon is a Shared Research Center and a cross-border collaboration between TNO, VITO and ECN. Biorizon focuses on technology development for the production of biobased bulkaromatics (BTX) and functionalized biobased aromatics for performance materials, chemicals & coatings. Biorizon’s goal is a further ‘greening’ of the chemical industry by replacing resources by renewable bio-based resources, that fit in the circular economy concept. Our ambition is to stay the leading European Center for (functionalized) biobased aromatics and to be in the global top 3.

Biorizon's headquarter is located at the Green Chemistry Campus in Bergen op Zoom (NL), at the heart of industries between Antwerp and Rotterdam.

Biorizon collaborates with global leaders in the fields of feedstock, conversion, equipment and end products, as well as SME’s. The results of Biorizon will allow its partners to commercialize biobased business successfully.
To assure the achievement of its mission - to enable commercial production of bio-aromatics by 2025 - Biorizon developed a roadmap with clear targets and milestones.The roadmap consists of 3 Horizons. Each Horizon has an R&D and a demonstration phase.

Responsibilities of the Director

The Director of Biorizon is responsible for the realization of the entire Biorizon programme and for the successful, substantial and timely delivery of all Biorizon activities. This means:

1. Being THE representative for Biorizon towards industrial and public partners.
2. Identifying opportunities and connecting industrial and public partners to the Biorizon programme, by active networking.
3. Initiating and organizing Biorizon networking and dissemination events.
4. Initiating, implementing and following up marketing and communication plan.
5. Looking for synergies and optimization accross the 3 Horizons.
6. Monitoring the progress of Horizons on adjustments where necessary.
7. Making an evaluation on a regular basis of the market and technology development of the programme and the technology partners and give progress reports to the Biorizon Board.
8. The Director reports to the Biorizon Board.

Profile

1. Proven experience as Director or other managerial position.
2. Demonstrable experience in developing strategic plans and business plans.
3. You are an active networker with preferably a network in the for Biorizon relevant domain.
4. Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
6. You speak Dutch and English fluently.

Offer

• Starting from 2 days per week we expect the function to grow to a fulltime position within 2 years.  
• We offer a good remuneration package.
• You work in a team staffed by the founding partners at VITO, TNO and ECN.
• We are open to negotiating a management or freelance collaboration.
• Location of work will be Bergen op Zoom, with frequent travelling in de Delta-region.
