Publication: Elucidating the effect of the physicochemical properties of organosolv lignins on its solubility and reductive catalytic depolymerization

Lignin, a bio-aromatic polymer with immense potential to replace petroleum for fuels, chemicals, and materials. One main obstacle to its full industrial exploitation is its complex structural variations after isolation from woody biomass. Biorizon co-initiator VITO and KU Leuven recently published a study about a way forward to address this challenge.

The researchers have integrated information on structure, chemical properties, solubility, and catalytic depolymerization for organosolv lignins. The publication is entitled ‘Elucidating the effect of the physicochemical properties of organosolv lignins on its solubility and reductive catalytic depolymerization’ and was published in the Chemical Engineering Journal.

If you want more information about this study or about the possibilities to collaborate with Biorizon to jointly develop bio-based aromatics, please contact Biorizon’s Lignin Horizon manager Karolien Vanbroekhoven at karolien.vanbroekhoven@vito.be or +32 (0)4 93 51 42 70.
